Well it had to be done really. The promise of a decent cup of tea and some delicious cakes was too much, as well as the opportunity to try the Singapore Sling at the place where it was created, and we headed off to the Raffles Hotel for High Tea. On the way, we stopped [...]

Arriving in Singapore at 7pm, we were struck by the humidity (This is not good hair weather). By the time we had got to the hotel and checked in, there was just enough time for a quick wander before bedtime. The following morning, we had been booked on a sightseeing tour. This took us to [...]
It’s warm in Cairns. That’s the first thing to note and apparently it hasn’t rained for three months. We’re not going to do the typical British thing and start complaining about it being too hot after moaning about the rain for the last few weeks though. Let’s hope that the monsoon season can hold off [...]
Our second day travelling along the Great Ocean Road started with the now familiar rain against the windows (and in this case the roof too). Undeterred by the weather we set out for Otway Fly, an elevated walk through the rainforest with a very high and wobbly viewing tower – surely it’s supposed to rain [...]
Today we left Melbourne behind and headed to the Great Ocean Road. We stopped at Anglesea for lunch and then the lookout at Point Addis. The scenery is quite spectacular, but I think we’ve been rather spolt by the scenery in recent weeks, so didn’t bother stopping too many more times on the way to [...]
Melbourne We arrived in Melbourne at around lunch time after leaving Launceston slightly late (thanks JetStar) and picked up the hire car which is smaller than the previous two but better for getting into small parking spaces in the hotel car park. After checking in, we headed down to the river, picking up some lunch [...]
Wednesday We arrived in Hobart late afternoon, picked up the car (which thankfully is smaller than the last one) and checked into the hotel in the town centre. Then we went for a walk to the waterfront and found some dinner in a little Italian restaurant in Salamanca Square before heading back to the hotel [...]
It wasn’t a surprise when we woke up and it was raining this morning, however we decided to brave a wander to the Opera House for some pictures and were rewarded by a brief dry spell and a small amount of sunshine.
No natural hazards to avoid today, so we took a trip up the east coast. First stop Whakatane where the sun came out so we took a trip up to the viewpoint above the town and then a walk along the shore.
We flicked on the TV whilst having breakfast this morning to see news of a tsunami heading towards NZ following the earthquake off Samoa. They were predicting that it would hit Napier later in the morning with waves of up to 1 metre. This is quite scary news when you’re from the UK and not [...]
